Former President Le Duc Anh laid to rest in HCM City

A burial service forformer President General Le Duc Anh, who was also former Politburo member andformer advisor to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam(CPV), was held at Ho Chi Minh City’s cemetery on May 3.

Attending the ceremony were Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc,former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen ThiKim Ngan, head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission PhamMinh Chinh, head of the Party Central Committee’s Information and EducationCommission Vo Van Thuong, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh,Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, President of theVietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man, Vice President DangThi Ngoc Thinh, leaders and former leaders of the Party and State, HCM City’sleaders, representatives from people’s armed forces, revolutionary veterans andpeople from walks of life.

Leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam FatherlandFront, comrades, compatriots, and the family of the former President observed aone-minute silence to pay their last respect to him.

On behalf of the funeral organising board and the formerPresident’s family, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh expressedthanks to mourners for their condolences and attendance at the respect-payingceremonies, the memorial service, and the burial ceremony of General Le DucAnh.
General Le Duc Anh, who served as President of Vietnam fromSeptember 1992 to December 1997, passed away on April 22 at the age of 99.

Vietnam has declared two days of national mourning for him onMay 3 and 4.
