According to this local Department of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment, in the summer of 2019, farmers in the district planted about2,200ha of rice. Currently, the district still has about 400ha of rice that hasnot been supplied with water, 10-15 days slower than the water supply cycle fornormal growing rice. In particular, An Ninh commune is 220ha, An Ninh Dong is117ha, An Thach is 10ha, An Cu 21ha, An Dan is 15ha and Chi Thanh town is 40ha.

In order to solve the problem for the fields, Dong CamIrrigation One Member Co., Ltd. is currently deploying many solutions to supplywater for rice. Mr. Trinh Nhu, Head of Tuy An Irrigation Station, said: Thisyear, the prolonged and intense weather caused the water levels in the rivers andstreams to be lowered. In Tam Giang and Ha Yen dams, many days, negative wateris below the threshold so it cannot flow into the canal.

In the meantime, most of the local countries in theregion have sowed simultaneously, so at the same time, taking the water in arow made the water supply work tense. To solve the current drought situation,the unit is in total pumping capacity to support irrigation. In addition,communes and towns have mobilized all existing pumps in cooperatives and peopleto pump water from ponds, lakes, rivers and wells to refresh their fields.

According to the Head of canal irrigation station NamLe Thanh Danh, before the current drought, the unit has started manyanti-drought pumping stations. So far, the whole system has run 18 pumps andmobilized 10 more people to pump to help save rice. However, the biggestdifficulty now is the shortage of water resources.

Meanwhile, on the North canal system, the whole systemhas about 800ha of rice in the field at the end of the canal level which hasnot been watered yet, so in recent days, workers of the station have to pump 24hours to have can speed up water supply.

In Ben Loi siphon (Hoa Tri commune), an electric pumpstation has been installed to pump water from river to N3 channel. In channelN5, 2 pumps are also installed to pump water from the drainage canal tosupplement the branch canal routes leading to the field. The unit alsoregulates water from Lo An reservoir to flow into the stream, leading to Ngocelection to create a source of water supply for 69ha fields in Tay An Phu field(Tuy Hoa city).

At the same time, the station cooperates withcooperatives to run 15 pumps to pump water from the available sources in thearea to irrigate rice. “The station is trying to regulate irrigated waterappropriately to strive for about 10 days to the entire area of the remainingcopper will be covered with water for the people.
To achieve this plan, people need to comply with theirrigation schedule of the unit, not to arbitrarily remove the water, hinderthe work of watering, extend the water supply time”, Mr. Huynh Quoc Viet, Head ofNorth channel irrigation station said.
