PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, his spouse and a Vietnamese high-ranking delegationleft Hanoi on May 20 morning for official visits to Russia, Norway and Sweden.

The visits are made at the invitation ofRussian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg,and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.
PM Phuc’s visit to Russia from May 20-23takes place in the context that both nations will organise the Vietnam Year inRussia and the Russia Year in Vietnam in 2019 and 2020 to mark the 25thanniversary of the signing of the treaty on basic principles for the bilateralrelations (1994-2019) and the 70th anniversary of the diplomaticrelations (1950-2020).
It also demonstrates that Vietnamtreasures the relations of traditional friendship and comprehensive strategicpartnership with Russia, as well as aims to strengthen the all-roundcooperation, especially in economy, trade and investment.
Meanwhile, his visit to Norway from May24-26 will affirm the strong relations between the two nations, and help deepenthe relations of traditional friendship and develop the bilateral cooperationinto a more practical and effective manner.
This is the first visit by a VietnamesePM to the northern European country since 1999. Both countries are celebratingtheir 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1971-2021).
After Norway, PM Phuc will visit Swedenfrom May 26-28, asserting that Vietnam consistently attaches much importance toconsolidating the friendship and traditional cooperation between the twocountries in the past five decades. Notably, this is the first visit at the PM-levelto Sweden after 20 years.
