* Dear Colonel Randy Van Rossum, would you please rate theresults that PP19 had done in Phu Yen?
- During our time in Phu Yen, we strengthened our inherentfriendship and created new relationships. This makes it clear that the UnitedStates, Vietnam and partner countries have a strong desire to grow together.
PP19 team in collaboration with partners in Phu Yen completed5 activities of humanitarian assistance and disaster response; 4 constructionprojects; 12 activities to interact with the host country; 9 performances and18 intensive medical seminars.
In addition, the US Navy and Army Corps of Engineerscompleted 4 projects of building and repairing schools, clinics and startedconstruction at Kim Dong Primary School (Dong Hoa district) by the TechnicalCommand Department of US Navy support.
Knowledge exchange sessions in order to enhance coordinationamong partner countries, including topics such as: pharmaceutical care, nursing, nutrition, infection control, hematology and physical therapymaterial; cooperating with Vietnamese Government agencies in training onhumanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
We are happy to have completed a number of projects to helpthe community build resilience; Support Phu Yen with more experiences in copingwith natural disasters in the coming time.
* Four operations groups implemented in PP19 are health, construction, community relations and humanitarian support after the disaster.According to you, which activity group is the most meaningful for Phu Yenpeople?
- It is really hard for me to choose the most importantfield, but if I have to choose, I choose humanitarian relief is the mostimportant after the disasters. There are 3 other areas that will support thisactivity. Our main goal for Vietnam is humanitarian assistance; Train andenhance disaster response skills. But we cannot do one field without the other3 areas, because it means to support each other.
PP19 aims to increase resilience for participating countriesbefore disasters and natural disasters. Because of disasters, natural disasterscan occur in any country and at any time. Natural disasters do not haveborders, so Vietnam, the United States and Pacific countries must always beprepared to respond quickly. Through PP19, countries work together so that whendisaster strikes, we can support each other...
* How was your impression of the PP19 for Phu Yen in thepast?
- The time we stayed in Phu Yen, gave us a great opportunityto continue to cooperate with the Vietnamese people, working together toimprove the capacity to respond to disaster relief and share practicalexperiences of medical and construction.
At the same time, both sides expressed their desire tostrengthen health care for the people, promote education and improve theirability to cope with natural disasters, contributing to ensuring sustainablesocial and economic development. Along with other cooperation activities, PP19has contributed to deepening the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam andthe United States.
Everyone who stops here knows more clearly about howwell-coordinated partner countries play, as well as learning from each otherthrough working together to enhance knowledge and experience.
We were also impressed with the support of local authoritiesthat facilitated PP19 to go well and achieve certain successes. On the otherhand, I like the most about communicating with the community, supporting thecommunity, because I really love children; enjoy going to schools to talk withthem; enjoy music performances; be shared with people.
AMERICAN AMBASSADORIN VIETNAM DANIEL J.KRITENBRINK: Blue sky, delicious seafood and very friendlypeople
This is the 2nd PP program Iattended. What I find most meaningful, most moving, most satisfied is to workwith Vietnamese people.
We have Vietnamese doctors, Americandoctors who work together to treat patients; Health professionals attendtraining courses, talk to each other to find the best practices, especiallylearning about blood transfusions. The two sides work together to improvetreatment - very meaningful. Medical staff from the United States, Peru andSouth Korea worked together at Phu Yen General Hospital and some medicalstations.
This year marks a decade of the PacificPartnership Program invited to Vietnam, but it was the first to be held in PhuYen province. Everyone who came to Phu Yen was being impressed. To me, thereare 3 impressions: blue sky, very delicious seafood and very friendly people.Look to the east of the sea, the west of the mountain. I like agriculturalactivities and still important people.
PP19 demonstrates the depth of thepartnership between Vietnam and the United States, especially the coordinationcapacity in the area of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
